One common goal...

ARCADIS and UN-HABITAT have one common goal – to improve the quality of life in rapidly growing cities around the world. Providing the necessary infrastructural support to those who need it most is central to achieving this goal.
That’s why we have chosen to call our initiative ‘Shelter’ and to ensure that our efforts are both practical and helpful.  Through Shelter, we are helping to address the related challenges by sharing our knowledge and expertise on the ground.
Shelter means much more than providing adequate housing. It’s about creating safer surroundings.  It’s about protecting the most vulnerable from the elements. It’s about building a better, sustainable future for all our communities.

The Challenge

As our towns and cities grow at unprecedented rates, urbanization is one of the most pressing challenges facing the global community in the 21st century. Making sustainable improvements to the urban environment is critical to delivering lasting results for all our communities. As one of the world’s leading engineering consulting and professional services organisations, we are well positioned to support UN-HABITATs efforts  to address this urgent challenge.

The Talent
ARCADIS’  talents span the fields of infrastructure, water, environment, buildings and urban planning at the highest levels. And the partnership with UN-HABITAT integrates fully with our strategic ambition to play a meaningful role in our communities and to use our services and expertise in ways that positively impact the world. By combining the global reach of ARCADIS and the humanitarian mission of UN-HABITAT, we can make a real difference in the world.

The Activities
Shelter focuses on two main activities:  involving ARCADIS professionals in UN-HABITAT projects on the ground such as the reconstruction program in  Haiti; and transferring our urban planning and development knowledge by organizing seminars for city officials from around the world.

World Urban Campaign
ARCADIS is also a key sponsor of the World Urban Campaign, an initiative from UN-HABITAT designed to raise public awareness and to address the social, economic and environmental challenges of urbanization.  To find out more about the World Urban Campaign, visit:  www.worldurbancampaign.org
